Revenge in Rebellion!

This article is dedicated to Ronak, for her ideas and useful suggestions.

Okay so it all started, precisely around 12, when i was on Facebook chatting to Ronak, a friend, and I was asking her about an idea to write about on our blog. Then, she suggests that i write something about being grounded. So i hop on to google, excited, and type it in and it came up with the lamest stuff that anyone can say in the matter of being grounded. Google is infested with too many adults in my opinion. Come on, we should have a little fun once in a while and post up something fun on the net! Anyway, back to the main subject…so she tells me (this friend) that she was grounded for sneaking out to the city as an act of revenge for being banned to go to the 30 Seconds to Mars concert. So, all in all, I was hopping on my feet to write something about teenagers and our truly eccentric ways. So i went on Google (grudgingly this time) and searched for CRAZY THINGS TEENAGERS DO!! This time i found some interesting info…

1)  “my baby boy smokes pot and is a little player, has gotten in trouble and is a smart alec. But he gets straight A’s and is going to one of the top universities at 16. So he is allowed to be a bit rebellious.” —LOL

2) “I wandered around a local supermarket feigning a british accent and pretended to “survey” all the hot young guys there about the qualities they found attractive in a woman. I still have the list to this day lol”

3) “stole watermelons from a fruit farm and went to town and threw them out of the back of a pick-up so our friends could play brake and slide behind us”

4) “I was dared to eat some dog crap…and lets just say I wasn’t feeling good for a couple of weeks after that incident.”

5) “I procrastinate til like 2 AM when I have such little homework”

6) “Egged cars in the winter (frozen on egg eats paint >:)~ )
Scared kids while trick or treating so bad, they drop their candy…free candy for me!
Sr. Year HS – we put over 50 construction horses on the front lawn of school and surrounded them with every real estate sign we could grab…talk about a horse corral
Ran around with squirt guns full of lighter fluid and squirted lit jack-o-lanterns!”

7) “I tipped over a porta potty. I also stole a piece of gum… OH yeah, I’M SOOO BAD.”

All credits to Yahoo Answers and it’s writers for all that info.

I was looking through for more crazy things teens do. Unfortunately I didn’t find anything interesting but i did find an article about the facts and figures surrounding this rebellion problem we face. The technicality of the article amused me…

Compared to adults, teens take about 170 milliseconds more weighing the pros and cons of engaging in high-risk behavior, the researchers conclude. Adults scarcely think about risk, perhaps because they think they recognize risk intuitively. Teens, on the other hand, take time to mull the risk vs. benefit equation.

“In other words, more experienced decision-makers tend to rely more on fuzzy reasoning, processing situations and problems as gists [the essence of their actions] rather than weighing multiple factors,” Reyna said.

Teens often decide that the benefits of risky behavior immediate gratification or peer acceptance—outweigh the risks, Reyna said. She figures its better to teach teens some “gist-based” thinking skills, such as putting risks into general categories rather than lecturing with specific data and details.

Nicole Richie’s Second Child

Harlow (so cute!) And Nicole

Nicole and Harlow (so cute!)

Hollywood socialite Nicole Richie has given birth to her second child in Los Angeles.

Richie, 27, and musician partner Joel Madden welcomed a baby boy to join big sister Harlow, 20 months – and their newborn son continues the long-running Hollywood tradition of celebrity offspring being bestowed with offbeat names.

“In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. He weighs 7 lbs. 14 oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes,” a statement on Richie’s official website read.

She was jailed in Los Angeles while pregnant with her daughter Harlow after being charged with driving under the influence. Richie was sentenced to four days, but was released due to overcrowding after just 82 minutes.

Since the birth of her daughter in January 2008, Richie has stayed busy designing a jewellery line, House of Harlow 1960, and recently released a line of maternity fashion in conjunction with US clothing line A Pea in the Pod.

Richie and Madden, 30, have been a couple for two-and-a-half years.

Article from Yahoo! Entertainment

Okay- two things- what does her being jailed have to do with this article? Are they trying to prove something here, like perhaps, she is not a good mother? Or are they just putting in the piece of information for the sake of spicing up something that isn’t scandalous enough for the sake of gossip? I’m not a fan of Nicole Richie or anything, but I think that is slightly unfair that they had to state that and even more wrong because they stated it so vaguely. And again- she was released ‘after just 82 minutes’- for the love of God the woman is pregnant! They make it sound like it was absolutely incredulous to let her go. I mean, they just said that she was pregnant and then they say that she was released due to overcrowding making it sound like it was because she threw a tantrum or something. I’m not saying she was right to be driving intoxicated while she was pregnant- she’s at fault there, definitely.
Is it me or is this article a bit ambiguous?
Leave a comment and let me know what you think about this in general, even if it is just to say how cute Harlow is!

Surviving Exam Prep

Uh-Oh it’s that time of the year again!

And so I have put this post back up which by no means implies that we’re all hard core on studies on Ebony Ink. So if you’re not being tortured by exams, check out the other not-so-serious-and-depressing stuff we have to offer. 😉

Till then we shall be squirming over our books…

A lump rises in your throat and you get wild butterflies in your stomach at the very mention of revision, and soon there are piles and piles of books, papers, pens, notes scattered all over the place with you in the middle having a nervous breakdown. Sound like you? Then you’ve come to the right place… I’ve put together some do’s and don’ts’ that will keep you healthy and at your best so you can kick some butt in that examination room!

UNFORTUNATELY, there is no alternative to plain old classic revision, BUT it doesn’t have to be torture… seriously, I mean it. And it doesn’t have to be plain old classic revision either. 🙂

DON’T:

– Whatever you do DON’T stay up for all night study sessions, fueling yourself with caffeine. This is the worst thing you can possibly do, even though it may seem like you’re achieving a lot in a little amount of time. All this does is disrupt your sleeping and eating patterns and totally trashes your immune system, making you more vulnerable to catching a cold or other illness.

– Don’t stress out. This is also going to weaken your immune system, you’ll end up feeling absolutely miserable and won’t be able to study. I know it’s easier said than done, but here are a few ways to relieve stress and get you back on track:
• Every time you start to feel a panic attack coming on, take a deep breath and let it out slowly.
• If this doesn’t solve the problem, then tell yourself to “stop” and think calmly about the problem. Is it really that bad? Is it really impossible to get through all the notes? If the answers are yes and yes, then have a 10 second panic period, then go back over the problems and list down as many solutions to the problem as you can no matter how silly they may seem. Now, just go back and eliminate all the ones that won’t get you anywhere, and you’re left with the best solution(s).
• Get out of your work space for a bit and get someone to test you on what you’ve done so far. This will help get your head back to the notes.
•  If you feel a surge of negative energy as you rack your brains over algebra, just relax, take a few deep breaths and imagine yourself in the exam room, cruising through the papers, then getting your results back, acing the test. As cheesy as this sounds- just believe in yourself.
• Squeeze one of those super cool squishy foam smileys. Release your stress out of your fingers or do yoga, meditation, kickboxing- anything that will help you relax.

– Don’t revise in front of the TV or computer. You won’t get anything done, and you know it. Find a quiet place where you can concentrate on your work, with nothing to distract you. If some spaces don’t work for you, then find another space where you can keep your focus. Study outside under a tree, or go to the library, but be careful about the spaces you choose, you don’t want to be disturbed.

Hahaha

Hahaha

DO:

– Plan out your study timetable. I know this sounds like a geeky thing to do, but plan out what subject you’re going to study on what day, working around your exam schedule. This will really help you to manage your time well and you won’t be doing last minute catch ups.

– If you’re a hardcore crammer, studying for hours on end, then you wont really get a whole lot through your overworked brain. Do yourself a favour, take breaks. Do the 45/15 routine, revise for 45 minutes then take break for 15. This way you’re not prone to distractions and you’re not going hungry. Have a snack or go for a quick walk, fresh air will help you to relax. But make sure you stick to the 45/15 rule- don’t sit down to watch an hour long soap, that’s just procrastination and we all know procrastination lands us in major  trouble…(yes i speak from experience)

– This brings us to our next point- start revision early. Don’t wait for two weeks before exams to start revising. I start revising almost a month beforehand. Yeah, I’m a nerd, but it really keeps the pressure and work load to a minimum. Don’t go into hard out revision just yet-start with revising at least three times a week, and when you have some spare time do some more, and gradually increase the time you spend revising. This stops you from diving straight into full on revision, because that’s really difficult.

– Music will help you relax and study with a little less stress. Grab a couple of highlighters, a bottle of water, some snacks and your iPod and get to work. Highlighting out the key ideas, facts and words will reduce the quantity of things you go over and make it easier to learn, and a couple of sentences are less intimidating than huge chunks of paragraphs. Drink plenty of water-it’s good for you. Don’t go for energy, fizzy or caffeinated drinks. Water is always a healthier option and it will stop you from loading your system with junk. Grab an apple or a muesli bar to keep you going, don’t starve yourself- it’s not a torment competition. When you feel a bit weary of your science notes, just sit back, close your eyes and listen to you iPod for a little while.

– Limit group study sessions. Even though they can be helpful, don’t rely on studying with your friends all the time. It’s absolutely crucial you have some serious, individual study time, it’s not solitary confinement, if you go with the 45/15 rule, you have 15 minutes to text or call a friend (try to stay away from the computer, it’s a HUGE diversion). You can always call up a friend and ask if you’re not sure about something, they’re still there for you, you’re just not being a disturbance to each other.

It’s okay to feel stressed out, just don’t let it get in the way for too long. Brush aside the stress, keep calm, think happy thoughts… and here I go being cheesy again, but don’t give up at the first sign of trouble or an obstacle. It’s okay if some things don’t work for you, like the 45/15 routine, just tailor your study habits to fit you. There is no right or wrong.

And remember- don’t beat yourself up too much if your results don’t come out the way you expected, it happens to everybody. Nobody’s perfect!

Failure is an event, never a person

Failure is an event, never a person

I really hope this helps, especially if it’s your first time sitting an exam, or you’re just a worrywort, a hardcore crammer, or simply just hate exams because they scare the life out of you, take consolation in  knowing you’re not alone.

Good luck!

Its amazing how obvious it is! Haha

lol... What can I say?

Jackson’s Death a Homicide…

Pop star Michael Jackson’s death has been ruled a homicide from an overdose of the anaesthetic propofol and other drugs, and police will refer the case to prosecutors for possible criminal charges, officials said on Friday.

The coroner’s ruling fuelled speculation that his doctor may face a criminal charge of manslaughter or worse.

The Los Angeles County Coroner said in a statement that propofol and the sedative lorazepam were the primary drugs responsible for Jackson’s June 25 death at the age of 50.

Other drugs found in the singer’s body were midazolam, diazepam, lidocaine and ephedrine.

Separately, the Los Angeles Police Department said its investigation was continuing but that police were referring the case to prosecutors for possible criminal charges.

Jackson, whose “Thriller” CD remains the best-selling album of all time, died suddenly after suffering cardiac arrest in a rented Los Angeles mansion only weeks before he was to begin a series of comeback concerts.

Houston-based doctor Conrad Murray was hired to care for the singer while he prepared for the concerts, and he was at Jackson’s bedside the day he died. Murray has admitted to police that he administered propofol, which is generally used in surgery, to help Jackson sleep.

In court documents, police have said Murray is the subject of a manslaughter investigation but officials have also looked into care provided to Jackson by other doctors who may have prescribed other drugs to him.

A spokesman for Murray’s lawyer said the attorney had no immediate comment.

POTENT DRUGS COCKTAIL

The list of drugs in Jackson’s system reads like a cocktail of sedatives, painkillers and one stimulant. Midazolam is a sedative similar to propofol, used to make patients drowsy but not unconscious during procedures such as colonoscopies.

Diazepam, the generic version of Valium, is used to calm anxiety, while lidocaine is a painkiller and ephedrine is a stimulant.

The coroner said the complete toxicology report remained sealed at the request of the Los Angeles police and the Los Angeles County District Attorney.

Forensics expert Dr. Lawrence Kobilinsky, who chairs the Department of Science at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and is not involved in the case, said that absent the full report, it was difficult to determine whether charges would be filed against Dr. Murray and what those charges would be.

He said prosecutors would be looking at the amount of propofol and other drugs in Jackson’s system, whether errors were made in administering drugs in combination, and whether Murray gave proper dosages or a lethal dosage.

“If he administered a lethal dose of propofol, they could charge him with negligent homicide,” Kobilinsky said.

But for now, police have only said in affidavits obtained to search Murray’s office that he is the subject of an investigation for the lesser charge of manslaughter.

A spokesman for Jackson’s family issued a statement on Friday saying the family commended the actions of the coroner and other law enforcement groups and “looks forward to the day that justice can be served.”

Whittaker’s VS Cadbury

I have to admit, I am a Whittaker girl, so I thought I’d put up the ad that’s been centre of attention for the past few weeks. I think it’s really quirky and unless you’ve watched it before, it’s a slight shocker.

It compelled me to think that maybe this was a contributing factor in Cadbury’s decision to bring back cocoa butter to their chocolate. There is a slight possibility.

I’m not going to say much more… The brilliant ad speaks for itself.

That last part hits the NZ target audience right where it hurts the most… their patriotic ego. This is definitely my favourite ad of the year!

And just so I’m being fair please vote for your favourite chocolate so I have something to prove… WITH STATISTICAL EVIDENCE :

Michael’s nose MIA at autopsy

Michael Jackson’s nose was missing as he lay in state.

An eyewitness claims he saw the ‘Beat It’ singer’s body on an autopsy table of a Los Angeles morgue with part of his face completely disappeared.

The witness said: “The prosthesis he normally attached to his damaged nose was missing, revealing bits of cartilage surrounding a small dark hole.”

Jackson – who died a month ago today of a suspected cardiac arrest – was believed to have had a number of surgical operations change the shape of his nose, which eventually eroded it away. He was also thought to be obsessed with plastic surgery and altering his appearance.

The witness added: “Jackson’s face – which he had so painfully reworked and concealed from the public for decades now – lay out in the open undisguised under the harsh lights.”

One of the ‘King Of Pop’s former housekeepers has previously told how the singer kept a number of false noses, which he applied using plasters and glue.

Adrian McManus said: “In his closet he had a jar of fake noses and stage glue, which he told me he used for disguises. But some were similar to his real nose, just without the hole.”

Reasons for Jackson’s fascination with surgery are unclear, though he has hinted it was because he was bullied as a child. Other sources said he was desperate not to look like his father, Joe Jackson, whom he had accused of hitting him as a youngster and making fun of his appearance.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles police have named the pop legend’s personal doctor, Conrad Murray as a manslaughter suspect in a probe into the star’s death.

Although toxicology reports have not confirmed the exact cause of Jackson’s death, it is believed he had dangerous levels of intravenously administered anaesthetic drug Propofol in his body at the time of his passing.

Dr Murray was with the singer when he died and also made an attempt to revive him.

A warrant issued by police allowed officers to search Murray’s assets for: “Property or items constituting evidence of the offence of manslaughter that tend to show Dr Conrad Murray committed the said criminal offence.”

Murray denies involvement in the singer’s death.

Well there is only one thing i have to say about this article form Yahoo! Entertainment…have some respect for the deceased. Who really cares what he did in his free time with his nose and stage glue?  Facsinating, yes, but c’mon, it’s been a month since his death… and yes i do know i’m sounding pretty hypocritical here considering i put the article up, but only because i know there are heaps of MJ fans out there who would like to know this stuff-but also because i thought to make a point about what i think, and that is that the media needs to give it all a rest right about now. it’s major news and all but the family is in mourning and besides, the guy really deserves some respect, and it doesn’t make a difference about who he was or what he did with his life.

Prince Michael watched dad die

Michael Jackson’s eldest son was forced to watch his father die, the singer’s family have claimed.

The pop superstar’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, allegedly made 12-year-old Prince Michael I watch his attempts to resuscitate him after he suffered a suspected cardiac arrest as he wanted a witness.

However, the Jackson family believe Michael had already been dead for at least two hours and Murray’s actions left Prince “understandably traumatised”.

Dr. Hoefflin, a family friend speaking on behalf of Michael’s mother Katherine, told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “I have been told by the family and from talking to the children that on the day Michael died, Dr. Murray actually got one of the Jackson children – it was Prince Michael I – to personally come into the bedroom to watch him perform CPR on his father.

“The family have told me Dr. Murray ensured Prince Michael understood the CPR procedure and that he was doing it correctly. It is the family’s belief that this was intended to show a member of Michael’s family that he was trying to bring Michael back to life.
“In my opinion Dr Murray should have known Michael was already dead and I believe that is the reason he didn’t move him from the bed to the harder surface of the floor to perform CPR.”

While Prince still struggles to come to terms with his father’s death his 11-year-old sister Paris is dealing with her grief by sleeping with a teddy bear her dad gave her.

Michael’s brother Jermaine said: “Paris sleeps with a teddy bear with Michael’s scent on – it’s so cute. It’s a little doll that he gave her and she sleeps holding it every night.”

Prince and Paris are also helping their younger brother, seven-year-old Prince Michael II, known as ‘Blanket’, come to terms with the loss of their beloved father.

Jermaine added: “I think ‘Blanket’ understands his dad has passed because of the ceremony we had. Prince and Paris are very bright and they have tried to explain it to him. And there is therapist with them to get through this time as well.”

Meanwhile, lawyers handling Michael’s estate are seeking a court-ordered allowance for his three children and mother Katherine.

A lawyer representing the temporary executors of his estate asked a judge to approve the allowance and the requests will be considered on August 3.

Paris Jackson’s Gift To Daddy

I know that a lot of you are interested in the Michael Jackson thing so I found another article about it on Yahoo! Entertainment. 🙂

Michael Jackson’s grieving daughter wrapped a heart necklace around his wrist as his body lay in an open coffin.

Paris Jackson, 11, wanted to give the piece of jewellery to her late father when she visited him at Los Angeles’ Forest Lawn Cemetery last Monday (06.07.09) as she wanted to make sure he always had something to remind him of her.

Michael’s elder sister La Toya, who witnessed the heartbreaking act during the family’s private viewing, said: “Paris told me, ‘The heart is in two pieces. I want one half to go to daddy and I will wear the other half forever.’

“She carefully wrapped it around his wrist and said, ‘Daddy this is for you. On daddy, it will be blue because he is cold. On me, it’s purple. He’s so cold, he is so cold.’ ”

Paris bought the necklace – which changes colour according to temperature – after Michael died of a suspected cardiac arrest last month and she wore it when she made her emotional tribute to him at his memorial service last Tuesday (07.07.09).

Paris Jackson

As well as the jewellery, Paris also got some coloured stones to decorate her dad’s body with.

La Toya – who has claimed Michael was murdered by the “shadowy entourage” he surrounded himself – also recalled the moment she first saw Paris and her brothers, Prince Michael I and Prince Michael II, also known as ‘Blanket’, after the ‘Thriller’ singer’s death.

She said: “When I got to the hospital my mother was crying and the kids were crying. I screamed, ‘Is it true?’ and my mother said, ‘Yes, he’s gone.’ I couldn’t stop crying. I’m screaming and the kids are screaming. My mother was sitting there with all three of them on her lap, just crying.”

La Toya also revealed Michael was not the biological father of ‘Blanket’, revealing the youngster was conceived via artificial insemination.

She said: “Michael didn’t want to know who the biological parents were. They took eggs from a donor and I believe the sperm came from one of five donors picked from a book.

“I don’t know who carried the child or if the surrogate knew whose child she was carrying. Those children were his greatest joy. He was a superstar but the only people who loved him unconditionally were the children.”

Jackson’s ex says he’s not the father!!

Michael Jackson’s ex-wife Debbie Rowe has admitted that the singer is not the father of his two eldest children.

In an interview with British tabloid News of the World Rowe says she was artificially inseminated with the sperm of an anonymous donor to conceive son Prince Michael, 12, and daughter Paris Michael, 11.

Rowe, who worked as a nurse at the practice of Jackson’s dermatologist before marrying the singer in a surprise Sydney ceremony in 1996 – told the paper she does not want custody of the two children and expects not to see them again.

“I was just the vessel,” she told the paper in an interview which ran yesterday. “I got paid for it, and I’ve moved on.

“I know I will never see my children again.”

Since Michael Jackson’s death Debbie Rowe is no longer bound by the confidentiality agreement she signed with the singer after their marriage. Rowe, 50, received a multi-million dollar payout following the couple’s divorce in return for giving up all custodial claims to her son and daughter.

She now lives on a ranch in a remote part of California which she shares with 11 dogs and around 30 horses.

Rowe agreed to have children for the singer after his first wife, Lisa Marie Presley, refused to start a family with him.

“I went to the ‘office’, which is what we called the medical clinic. They impregnated me. It’s just like I impregnate my mares for breeding. It was very technical.

“Just like I stick the sperm up my horse, this is what they did to me. I was his thoroughbred.”

The end of the couple’s union came, Rowe claims, after the difficult birth of daughter Paris. In a previous interview Michael Jackson admitted taking a newborn Paris from the hospital where she was born just hours after her birth, with the placenta still attached to the baby.

“The delivery was so hard. My insides were all torn up and I was barren. When he knew I couldn’t have any more babies he didn’t want anything to do with me.”

The couple never consummated their marriage, with Rowe receiving a kiss on the cheek from Jackson on their wedding night.

“He wanted to pretend that we were a family. But we never lived together as a couple. We never had sex. He was on the road, doing his thing.

“He never wanted to live with me. That’s why he bought me a house. There was always ‘my house’ and ‘his house’, never ‘our house’.

“We would jump in bed together and read magazines and watch movies, with all the animals around us before the kids were involved. We used to hang out with each other.

“But that was his life. That’s Michael. That was what it was like.”

Despite reports, she says she will not fight for custody of the Prince and Paris. The children are expected to live with their paternal grandmother, Katherine Jackson, in Encino, Los Angeles. Jackson’s youngest son Prince Michael II, also known as ‘Blanket,’ was born to an anonymous surrogate mother in 2002.

“I was never a good mother, I never felt any attachment to them. It was a better feeling giving them to him than it was keeping them as my own. “I was never cut out to be a mother – I was no good. I don’t want these children in my life. My children are my animals now.”

Article from Yahoo! Entertainment
Her just saying that ‘ I don’t want these children in my life. My children are my animals now.’, i wonder if she even thought ONCE what effect that may have on the kids. I mean, whatever, but she doesn’t have to be such a cow about it. Quite honestly, i think she’s right in saying she isn’t ‘cut out to be a mother’ because God forbid anyone having a mother like that! I just think it’s so wrong, how could she be telling the press this? God has she no shame?!
